I have been looking at scriptures that support the law of attraction. If you aren't familiar with the big buzz about this, you need to watch or read, "The Secret". The basic idea is that your thoughts create your world. Where you are now is a direct result of your dominating thoughts of the past. Where you will be in the future is a result of your current dominating thoughts. I like the concept, but I feel a need to prove any philosophy against the scriptures. Here are few:
Proverbs 23:7 "As a man thinketh, so is he"
What are you? Who are you? ...what are you most often thinking about?
Matthew 5:8 (6-8 really)"Blessed are the pure in hear for they shall see God"
What do you see around you? Do you see God (or good)?
Matthwe 6:21 "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also"
What "treasure" do you have around you? That is truly the desire of your heart.
Galatians 6:7 "Whatsoever a man soweth, he shall reap"
A thought led to an action that put you where you are now, you have reaped your own harvest. What will your next harvest be?
D&C 88:63 "Draw near to me, I will draw near to you....seek and ye shall find"
As you move closer to anything, it will move closer to you
D&C 88:40 "Light cleaveth unto light, intelligence cleaveth unto intelligence"
What are you drawn to? What do you find drawing itself to you?
D&C 75:27 "Ask and you will receive, knock and it shall be opened"
Simply by thinking of it, speaking of it, or acting on it you are asking for it, you are knocking on the door, and the Lord has said "it shall be opened"
I LOVE THE SCRIPTURES!
I have also been thinking about the Law of Abundance. I have a few scriptures on that...to share later.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

I should say, starting out, that I do believe in the power of positive thinking. I also believe that far too many people are too negative, and that we all should be more positive. My only real concern about the law of attraction, as it has been explained to me, is that it can lead to a de-emphasis on the influence of the Lord in our lives.
I see the process as being: 1) think positively about the world and the things that you want; 2) pray for those things to become a reality; 3) work hard and trust in the Lord; and 4) the Lord will bless you with the things you desire in righteousness. The problem is that the law of attraction doesn't really need any but 1) and 3), and the Lord can easily be replaced in 3) by some mystical force in the Universe.
I know that's not how Ben uses the theory, but it's not that big of a step.
You're awesome Ben!! Thanks for your insights.
i believe in the law outlined in the Paula Abdul song "opposites attract".
no really, good thoughts Ben. I do believe that where a mans' thoughts are, there will his heart be also. And I believe that the more good things we think about and do, the more the Lord is able to enter our lives and bless us and make us become even more than our thoughts allowed. It's like a turbo-booster!
Great thoughts, Ben. I also find scriptures coming to mind to support what I am reading when I read a really great article or book.
Ben,
Great blog - I found it through your LinkedIn invite and I enjoyed this post. My grandmother who is not a member of the Church raves about 'The Secret' even though it hasn't been a secret for a long time because of the doctrines you outlined. I completely agree with what you wrote.
What I feel 'The Secret' lacks in principle is that it focuses a lot on just thinking "it" (whatever "it" a person wants) and "it" will come to you. Whereas, I feel more correct principle would be that as you think it, you may be more likely to have actions that correspond with those thoughts, which will ultimately lead to "it."
In a Gospel sense, as we remember and think about the Gospel, the more our actions will correspond, but we still must exert the faith to move into action...and vice-versa...which is probably why the basic covenant we make and renew each week hinges greatly on remembering.
Even better than 'The Secret' is James Allen's 'As A Man Thinketh,' for sure!
Bob Proctor (not LDS)actually quotes D&C130:20 in his book You Were Born Rich. I've been studying this a lot after joining up in a business that sells personal development products that are based on the law of attraction and was at first worried that it might conflict with my beliefs. After reading at least 8 books by different authors I have come to the conclusion that it all coincides, it's just been made non-denominational to appeal to more people thus "the universe" instead of God. Researching it all has actually increased my testimony and helped me feel more loved by God. I can see however that non-religious people could view it as their will, and be selfish about it all. If you study, you'll find that is NOT how it works. http://www.moretimewithfam.com
It is extremely interesting for me to read this article. Thanks for it. I like such topics and anything connected to this matter. I would like to read a bit more soon.
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
